Crispy Rice Roll with Orange Blossom Honey
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup Castor River Farms jasmine rice
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp rose water (optional)
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup orange blossom honey
Garnishes
- Chopped pistachios
- Coconut flakes
- Pomegranate seeds
- Mango sorbet
Directions
- In a sauce pot over medium-high heat, bring the water to a boil. Add the jasmine rice, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, rose water (if using), nutmeg, and salt. Stir gently to combine.
- Cover the pot with a lid, reduce the heat to low, and cook for about 12 minutes, or until the rice is just cooked through.
- Transfer the cooked rice to a half sheet tray and let it cool for 15 minutes.
- Once cooled, divide the rice mixture into four portions. Place each portion on a sheet of plastic wrap and gently roll it into a log or roll shape. Refrigerate the rolls for about 1 hour to fully cool.
- Heat 1/2 cup of oil in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil ripples, carefully remove the plastic wrap from a rice roll and fry it, browning all sides. Repeat with the remaining rolls.
- In a small sauce pot, gently heat the orange blossom honey over low heat until it reaches a watery consistency. Roll each fried rice roll in the warmed honey to coat evenly.
